Dr. S.K. Chakrabarti (India) is Director of the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), Shimla since 2016. He previously served as Director of the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute,Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram. Both institutions are part of the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR).Dr. S.K. Chakrabarti has worked in various capacities at Central Potato Research Institute since 1986. He obtained his B.Sc. from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, West Bengal in 1980 , M. Sc. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1983 3 and Ph.D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1987 and joined Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in 1986. He is working on potato pathology for the last 30 years and is well known for his work on Potato genome sequencing consortium- a multinational project involving 26 international institutes belonging to 14 countries, PotBio: Generating biomarkers for breeding healthy potatoes – a Indo-European collaborative project involving India, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain , and UK, Engineering late blight resistance in susceptible commercial Indian potato cultivars -a multinational project involving USA, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, and Uganda, Molecular tagging of extreme resistance to potato Y potyvirus (PVY) and horizontal resistance to late blight in potato (ICAR Network project), Development of polymerase chain reaction based diagnostics for bacterial wilt pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum and many more. He has published over 165 research papers and a number of technical bulletins and book chapters. He has won several awards including ICAR team research award.
